well everyone will jus say emperor scorpions are the best beginniers
i have found that to not always be the case with my violent little sh!t although they are not difficult to keep.most of the scorpions i have are pretty docile i would say a really good begginers scorp is the flat rock scorpion very docile, beautiful and easy to care for. i woudnt advise any scorp that needs to go on sand they tend to always be a bit bastardy although my desert hairy is a bit slow haha hope this helps! ![]()

It depends really, some scorps like the emperor can be very good as a beginner but at the same time some can be very aggresive as mentioned above. Though the desert hairy scorp which is known to be quite aggressive can be a good start as some of these can be very docile. I believe aggresive behaviour is down to the individual scorpian.
I started with an emperor and had no problems, ended up breeding these lovely scorps for a while. basically ignore all my waffle above, what i'm trying to say is i still think emperors are a good choice!!

My first (and only!) scorps were Emporers.
I had one very docile and handleable juv. and a breeding pair of adults. The male was a bit skittish but the female (who was BIG even for an emp)she was fab, very very tame and a joy to handle. Turned out she had been gravid since before I bought them as well. The most aggression I ever saw from them was them hitting each other with their tails when they were eating. My favourite memory of my big girl is one day I was holding her on my hand and one foot was dangling over the edge, so with the other hand I gently moved it back onto my hand...at this point she started reversing and that huge pincer moved down and opened around the side of my hand (it was between my thumb and forefinger) and I thought, oh no! This is it! I've pissed her off and shes gonna give me a nip! She didn't. She gently felt the side of my hand to see what had touched her foot, and then went back to sitting quite happily. Although the place I worked at the time had about ten of them in display and none of them were so pleasant to handle. Don't know if keeping them in large groups has any effect on temperament. Nearly every one of them had war wounds as well. Last edited by iiisecondcreep; 12-11-2007 at 03:03 PM. |

lol ok we'll come to that later haha but yeah really this may sound a bit unhelpful but i supose you could get pretty much any sp. of scorpion and it could be very differant in behaviour to the next one!
personally i recomend a flat rock scorpion i find them very pretty and a fairly slow species hope it helps mate! ![]()
