Default heating

if using a heat pad with your inverts do you also need a stat?

It is safer to use a stat, but tbh they are less needed with inverts then snakes/lizards. You just have to make sure the heat mat doesn't get too hot. I usually heat the whole room as I have loads of inverts.

True, but if you go and buy another 100 or so it will be cheaper, lol. Nah, if you just have one or two then as long as the mat doesn't get too hot you should be ok without a stat.

Ive got a few scorpions, and use heat mats without stats for both of them, I even have 2 heat mats on one tank as they dont get it hot enough so id doubt that it will overheat.

With scorpions you NEVER put it on the bottom, as scorpions regulate their body temperature by burrowing to get cooler (obviously wouldnt work if the heat mat was underneath). Im not sure with T's but if you keep it on the side it wont be a bad thing i assume. Better than risking it underneath.

It depends on the T where the mat goes and how hot you will want it. If you have an arborial T then the mat is best on the back, a terrestrial T can have it on either the back or under it. With a deep burrower would it would be best on the back as it will get very hot at the bottom of the tank.
