Agree with young gun, put the heat mat at the back of the tank not underneath. When inverts are drying out their instinct is to burrow which compounds the problem. Plus put a few clean bamboo stems in from bottom to half way up the viv. Helps them to support their burrows.

On coconut fibre they won't need that coz the substrate holds itself.

No offence, but you seem like you don't know a lot about T's. Do you actually know how fast and aggressive the cobalt is? I ask this as you seen not to know how to care for one. PLEASE; do your research! And be VERY careful as Cobalts imo are for experienced keepers only.

Thats true, they are one of (if not the) most aggressive T's in the hobby. The only ones that I have found more ready to bite is my C. darlingi and my H. manax.

No offence taken I have asked these questions because no matter how much I research a t before I get it there always seems to be conflicting advice. I just wanted to make sure before it came. I have never had one that burrows before which is why I was reading up on them first. I know how aggressive they are, and I am experienced in having t's. I had never read anything that has said that you don't put the heatmat under a tank for a t, I have always done it. And even when I have spoken to people that keep them and to the reptile shop that I go to, they have said the t's would be fine with a mat underneath them, as none of the one's I had were burrowers.

And I've just had a look on another care sheet for the cobalt and it says that floor space is more important than height, yet on other websites it says height is more important as they need enough depth in the tank to burrow. THIS IS WHY I WAS GETTING A LITTLE CONFUSED

Here are the basic guards for an adult cobalt (H. lividum): 6-8 inch of substrate (coir works best). Can add a little cork bark near the side as it tends to help them choose that place to burrow. Fake plants aren't needed, but can be added for decoration (I do). A small wide, shallow water bowl filled with spag moss (NEVER use cotton wool). Heat mat on the back or side of the tank. Mist 3 times a week. NEVER handle these T's.

Hope this helps. Oh, here is a pic of one of my cobalt setups.
