Default Sling gone dark overnight

Hi All

My B.smithi sling looks like hes gone dark overnight and he h asnt eaten for about a week. Is this a sign he might be coming up for a moult? Would they darken up so quickly?

Default Moulting

Thanks so much for replying. I can't wait for him to moult and see how much bigger he will be. There was no skin in the container I had him in when I bought him so I don't know when he moulted last. I've only had him a month.

If you find your T like dead, don't do anything with it, don't bother It...It is moulting!!! After moulting, leave It alone for a couple of days, no food just water needed.
If It is still in the same position after 2-3 days, it is dead.....

As a rule Ts molt on their backs but die the correct way up. Molting may take a week to complete but is likely to be done within 48hrs after which it really needs to be left alone so that the skeleton and fangs can harden. During and after the molt the T is quite vulnerable which is why all food she be removed and no food should be introduced until the process is finished. After a week it should be safe to feed again.
The only thing you need to provide during this period is a full water dish to maintain humidity and your T will likely drink from it once the molt is complete.

As it is only a sling though I would spray it and not use a water dish ad it will drown being only tiny. the bigger one it would be fine with a water dish

I see from your post on the BTS site that your sling is perhaps 1cm. At this size you may find the cotton wool bud soaked in water is the answer. Generally people avoid cotton or sponges as they can harbour bacteria but in the case of a sling of this size it may be appropriate. Just remember to replace the cotton wool frequently. Alternatively a little drop of water down the side should help. The moisture will help with the molt.

Thanks everyone for your help. The sling has been dark for a week now and hasn't eaten anything and hasn't gone into a moult yet. He won't come out of his hide for me to have a good look at him either.

Thats normal behaviour Just leave him to it and once he's moulted he'll kick the skin out. Nothin to worry about.
