Default My Megaphobema Robustum

My m.rubustum spends a lot of its time climbing the tank, for a burrowing species it just seems a bit odd! anyone else had this with a m.rubustum or any other burrowing species?

Is the tank too wet? Deep enough substrate? Hide? How long have you had it ?

spiders will climb the sides if the tank if the substrates too wet

Are you using a heat mat? if so where is it?
Spiders will borrow to escape heat so the heat mat underneath the tank isn't a good place for it to be.
Similarly if the mats on the side and its too cold it could be trying to get closer to the mat where its warm.

Ok cheers guys, I mist the tank about once a week. I'l put the mat on the side of the tank and see what happens.

I tried that with my G.rosea for a week and she never moved from the same spot, hugged to the side of the tank where the heat mat was. now its underneath again and she's far more active.

I have 2 Sub Adult M. Robustums. They are kept on 5" of dry'ish coir with cork bark tubes buried in it.

They love burrowing and using the tubes as tunnels. The heat matt is on the rear of the viv and a large waterbowl is permanently filled to the brim.

This species does not require high temperatures. I keep mine at 72 degrees. They are eating, growing and thriving well.
I particularly like their unique defense mechanism of leg lift, spin, kung fu stylee.

You dont actually mention what conditions you are keeping your T in, but i suggest its not comfortable with some aspect.

Having said that. I do have some species that 'buck the trend.' An adult Cyriopagapus that lives terrestrial and a N. Chromatus that lives arboreal.

I hope this helps. Good Luck.

Izan

My M.robustum is only a sling and is about an inch and a half across. its on 3" of substrate which is vermiculite. I use soaked cotten wool for a water supply and mist every 4/5 days. I have half a log thing for it to hide in. I like the idea of tubes in the substrate but wonder if I would ever see my little beauty!
