Chilean rose definatly. They are so lovely and very pretty.
Alternatly the mexican red knee, the chaco golden knee or the mexican red rump. Any of the grammastola or brachypelma speciaes are usally very docile. But of course, handling isnt recommended anyway and there are always individuals which will be nasty rather than calm.
If you want to go aboreal (which being a newbie I doubt you will) the pinktoes are very pretty and docile, but are known to jump.

Overall for smething which is always out in the open and is very pretty id say go for any of the above. But the chilean rose is the most popular pet spider for a newbie.

Just dont lean towards the baboons and things like that. Not a very good beginner species, even if they are very colourful.

I'd go with the red knee, as I think they look far more nicer!

Out of those listed I would say Red Knee but why not try somethin like L.Klugi (Bahia Scarlet Birdeater).

Chilie defiantly, i used to be terrified of spiders but got over my fear in a week of having it. Their interesting and now i can laugh at the small spiders that used to terrify me. I like it so much im looking for a huge spider next.

Chile rose Ts are nice, but they can be a pet rock. Red Knees are a bit brighter and might actually move between meals. I rather like the brachypelmas.

I voted Chile Rose, coz i love mine and she's nice and slow and chilled out.

but if you're feeling adventurous, why not Get some P. Regalis >.>
