Default Praying mantid question???

I read in an email that praying mantids will only breed if the female rips the males head off!, is this true? Sorry for the dumb question...

this is quoted from the email lol...

The male praying mantis cannot copulate while its head is attached to its body. The female initiates sex by ripping the male's head off.('Honey, I'm home. What the..?!')

if the female has food whilst mating , or hes wily then the male lives to see another day.
if the female catches him , hes a goner .

I haven't lost any males to females during the act. I did have a female who just dropped her locust and turned on the male (he lost a leg) and I've had a dumb male attack a female 3 times his size and she just pinned him down and carried on eating her locust.

It can happen. Normally though, the male gets on the females back then she can suddenly turn on him and bite his head off. However, if he manages to stay on her back, mating keeps going! Until it's done, then the males body falls off.

i mated few mantid..the males never got eaten..once 1 did but that was my fault cause i didnt feed the female..so after she mated with him she had him for dinner...i mean it can happen but to prevent it u feed the female right up to the point shes rejecting food.then when u mate them shes less likely to eat him,.my male was about to die to old age so i let her eat him..
