yeah theres a couple of camera shy yellow bellies in there as well.they live out all year round.as i put mud/leaves in the bottom for them to bury down and hibernate in.

All year round, really? I'm not a turtle man myself... dont know much about them, but I assume they are tropical, yes? They survive OK, though, do they?

Either way, nice enclosure and nice turtle.

hi,ash they are from usa if i remember rightly florida/louisiana in the bayoua/swamps so slightly warmer,but they thrive in british waterways dumped there when people realised how big/smelly they get.they just dont breed as its not warm enough for the eggs to incubate. thats why i put a lot of weed in there to simulate its native habitat.and they are thriving in there.

Ah ok, very interesting. I was going to say should you not be more careful about escapee's, but as you say the eggs dont incubate there is no risk there! Cool.

RES and YBS are temperate species and range as far north as southern Virginia, and they hibernate naturally at that latitude.

that is great i am going to be building an out door enclosure with a pond for my read eared slider.

The pond should be around a metre deep so that it maintains a minimum 4°C at the bottom during the winter, and you'll have to turn the pump off to stop cold water from the top being drawn down.
