ok ive just rescued him hes about 5 to 6'' hes in a 4ft tank water temp is 24 at mo basking temp is 90 hes got a fluval 3plus internal filter im going to keep him any tips etc welcome

any idea what type of turtle it is? was told ybslider but im not sure that it is

Looks like a YBS to me too, but Graham's the lad to ask. I'll hazard an opinion theres not enough water in that tank for the turtle, and it won't be able to stay in that tank very long. I'd also invest in a decent external filter to cope with all the terrapin poo, a fluval 3 won't be sufficient even with an internal filter. Oh and I'd get rid of the gravel, it can harbour all sorts of debris and bacteria which will compromise the quality of your water and possibly the health of your little guy. So just a few tips to get you started. Have a look on Graham's other site, the terrapin tank, loads of good ideas for set ups, practical advice, essential husbandry etc. Is this your first terrapin? If so, good luck with the little guy/gal!

Looks like my yellow belly slider to me they are cute little things mine is about the same size as yours and is great fun to watch

I'd say Cumberland/ a cooter and not a YBS, as Graham has said (elswhere!). Having a YBS now i can see a bit of a difference, slight as it is.

no s shape or markin behind the ear is not a ybs its a cumberland slider
