Default Transport advice please

Apologies in advance if this is a really daft question. I am in the process of researching a bearded dragon as a first reptile, and this forum has been very helpful for habitat and food advice. I really like the look of some of the reddish and multicoloured versions, and have come to realise then when we are ready to buy the beardie that there will almost certainly be a bit of a journey to obtain one if I want a specific colour. I am more then happy to travel to do this as I would rather buy directly from a breeder. Which leads me to the question - how do you transport home a reptile please? I am used to moving small furries or birds, but none of these need to be kept warm in the same way. I assume that the specialist couriers have heated vans etc but I would rather collect myself then use this method. So is there a maximum time that a bearded dragon can be without heat? So that I know the maximum distance I can travel when I start looking in the spring please.

Many thanks

Julie
