Ceramic for a viv definitely. So much better. Guarded and statted obviously. Mats dont give a temp gradient throughout the viv and i wouldnt use a mat with a royal anyways in a viv as these IMO should be reserved for RUBs and smaller/younger snakes. A ceramic will give a lovely all over warm enviroment for the snake and he wont have to search for a mat that only gives off heat to whatever touches it...and have to stay on it just to keep warm. Instead he can go off on his jolly travels round the viv whilst keeping warm too
