would damp shredded paper be suitable for the damp hide?

when i first get my gecko should i leave him/her for a day or two and not fed the gecko for say.. 24 hours so it can get used to its surrounding?

I usually leave them alone quietly for the first day or so with a dish of mealies in with them to snack on

and a heat lamp isn't necessary ?

also where do i attach heat mats... inside the vivarium under the substrate?or outside at the bottom of the tank?

if you have a wooden viv then the statted heatmat is placed on the floor under the substrate with the stat prob placed ontop ~ if you're using a glass/plastic tank then generally the statted heat mat goes underneath the tank
