Most do naturally progress, they tend to recognise the smell when its feeding day and know food comes in when that smell is about, they tend to be waiting with their head being where you open the lid so you cant get it past them, when you see them like this then dangle it with tongs, mind your fingers. But as others have said some never do, they seem to catch on anywhere from a few weeks to 6 months old, when they are ready you will notice.

As for your first corn she learnt at about 4-5 months without any extra encouragement.
