I would keep the UV, Katie - as diurnal lizards, they will benefit from having it.

As long as he can get OUT of the light, he'll be fine.

With the feeding... I would hold out. Give him bowls of chopped greens/butternut squash with some sliced sweet fruit like nectarine or better yet papaya, scatter a couple of morio or mealworms on top... and then do not give him meaty foods at all until you're sure he's eating the veggies.

If he's obese, having a few hungry days won't do him any real harm, as long as he has the option to eat the food that's available.
