Pulse stats are more acurate at controling the temps than a plain mat stat... personaly I would feel more comfortable with that.

mat stats are a on off profile not pulse so they can have up to a 5degree fluxuation before cooling or heating, pulse just sit at requiered temps flashing thier tits off to maintain the heat ratio...

dimmer stats are used for lighbuilbs and not made for ceramics or mats as these are a heating element not filament like a buld which can have its current reduced, using one on a mat or CHE will/can reduce their life span and also cause a greater fire risk...

thanks Jon

damn i got advised by a pet shop near me that the dimmer stat was perfect for a heat mat and that i can use it on a ceramic heat bulb!!! (just taken it of the ceramic bulb) £55 bloody hell! i was using it for my collared and fat tail eggs no wonder ALL of the eggs screwd up!!! omg i am soo off. i thought it ws my fault! i dont mind ppl not knowing about everythin that they sell but giving the wrong advice to make a sale is not right. i am never going there again!!!!!!

you can use dimmer stats on ceramics.. they work just fine and my g/f has been for years (think its over 4 years now) without any failures of either ceramic or stat... all they do is reduce the voltage going to the ceramic to control the heat output instead off pulsing it on and off.. Likewise they do work with heat mats (although they need a minimum wattage on them to work properly so unless you have a huge incubator with a huge mat dont bother)

id always use a pulse stat that way a pulse is sent every second and the temps are accurate..

ministats like the microclimate ministat 100 are perfectly fine. although they might not be the most accurate of all, we have hatched many clutches of different reptiles this year including corns, beardies and leopard geckos to name a few.
