Default Sticky pads for Thermostats

What's the best pads to use to stick these back up? i've changed some vivs out and as everyone knows, cannot re-use the old cement like original pads. Other pads just don't seem to be as sticky as the ones that come with the stats!

I've never tried velcro but have heard it's not that good for stats. I'll give the number plate tape a go thanks

Is it a wooden viv? If so then I glue a backing plate to the back of the stat enabling me to attach it with small woodscrews, alternatively take the front off the stat, drill a couple of small holes in the back, attach with screws and replace the front.
