Myth
I've seen a few pics on this forum of hamsters with this stuff in shot.
Fluffy coloured cotton wool type hamster bedding.
I'd just like to take a second to warn
against
it.
Yes it's bright, it's fluffy, it's soft and in some pet-shops they even recommend the stuff.
On some packs it even reassures you the buyer that it's made from 'natural fibres'
Avoid like the plague.
There have been numerous cases of rodents ( in particular hamsters)
Both young and old animals...Getting limbs tangled in it and losing feet, toes etc.
That and the risk of them ingesting the stuff and it becoming impacted in the gut
...resulting in an untimely end.
Even if you think " may hamsters isn't stupid he/she won't eat it..."
They will still pouch it to carry around and make a nest.
The fibres could easily be accidentally ingested when they clean out their pouches.
It
does
happen and far too often when it's so easily avoided.
OK *rant over*

I had one bad experience with this type of bedding. It was when I started breeding mice a few years ago. It sounds clichéd, but I never thought it would happen to me! A little baby doe lost one of her hind legs when a single strand of it wrapped around her leg. I learned a hard lesson.
I
would
use it in an emergency but
only
with adults.
NEVER EVER use cotton wool type bedding with your litters.

This fluffy stuff nearly killed my robo!! She had a rotastak cage, with her sleep house above the cage with a tube. She must of got some bedding wrapped round her leg. I found her hanging by her back leg with this bedding wrapped around it. She was actually passed out from being upside down for so long!! Luckily I manage the untangle her. Both her and her leg were okay, but I never used it again!
