Exclamation My crested gecko is digging around the nesting box.

Hi,

I wondered if you guys could help as my female crested gecko is digging around

the nesting box(I`m breeding them) not inside the nesting box?!

Is that OK? I`m hoping for eggs but I`ve heard that the eggs will be stained

with bark so is there a way I can persuade the female to lay eggs in the box?

Thanx.

She'll lay where she wants to lay & where she feels most safe and comfortable.
I'd try and put a lid/cover on the lay box, that may persuade her to go in there if she feels safe.
Also if you have anything in with her I suggest you remove them while she lays and recovers.

Nope there is nothing you can do, as said above me she will lay where she wants. I'm curious why you seem so worried about eggs being stained though, it won't affect anything other than how the egg looks, but if you check each morning for eggs they won't even stain if you remove them soon enough.

Our girl had a bark plant pot with substrate and moss in it and seemed likely to lay there but despite looking many times I never found any eggs. Got up this morning to find two teensy cresties! God knows where she laid the eggs!

They're now safe and sound in a big cricket keeper after a bit of a mad rush round to set it up!

The material may stain the eggs, and it is thought that there may be a chance that the materials may leech into the eggs and harm them.

I the eggs get stained it won't cause any issues to the baby.
