Agreed, a trip to the vet is likely to involve a close examination of the eye with a ophthalmoscope, there could be so many different reasons for it.
Eye irritation, as said an infection, or a secondary symptom of another infection.
I am guessing what-ever other treatment is given, tiacil or some eye drops will probably be perscribed, but only your vet will know how to proceed.
