Default heatmat

i'm concerned about my leo and the heatmat size for the viv she is in

the heatmat is 11" x 11" she is in a 36" x 12" x 18" viv she spends most of her time on the slate tile that sits directly on the heatmat

your heatmat should be half the length of the viv...so i would think about upgrading the mat. have u got temperatures?

i'm not sure of the temps i have a dial thermometer that shows 20 - 25 degrees in the middle of the viv but i have been reading alot and have a with digital one on order to put where she sleeps so i can see the proper temps. i am planing on getting her viv all set up this week with some more slate and i was thinking of getting a red light. there is a moonlight bulb in there but its only 25w so don't think it gives off much heat

she doesnt need any bulbs in there, the heat mat of the appropriate size should give all the heat she needs. if anything you could get a red bulb for seeing her at night.

20-25 is too cold...you need to get the temps at around 25-30 if anything hun

ok i'll try to raise the temp but can't get heatmat til tuesday cause of bank holiday. will also get a red light for her.
its not on a sat, i got everything for her after talking to the petshop i got her from when i was in london and what they advised me to get.
how hot should it be where she sleeps?

well theres no fixed temp...you should just make sure that the viv overall is in the 80s fahrenheit...get a heatmat half the length of your viv - so half the viv is heated by the mat - that should raise your temps...and definitely get a stat, many people choose not to but if you're having temp problems it would be a good idea

for now, can you put her next to a radiator? or use some other heat source?

i cant say what others do, everyone has their own opinions, but i'll tell you what my setup is for my leos, i have 2ft tanks/vivs 11x11 heat mat stuck to the inside on the side wall, on the same side i have a basic light fitting containing a 15watt pigmy bulb, this is light a for them and also produces a little extra heat, esspecially on cold days this helps, i got this advive from my reptile shop and so far no probs. the temp at the hot end is 30 and the cooler end 27-28, i always measure the temp from the hot end just by having a basic exo terra thermometer stuck on the wall next to the heat mat. the thermostat is also at the hot end and i occasionly check the cooler end temp, with a thermometer, i hope i helped in some way.
