Post building a vivarium

i visited a local pet shop and fell in love with the bearded dragons i saw,im in the middle of trying to convince my other half(she is "putting" her foot down on this one)anyway.
ive noticed vivariums are quite expensive,as im handy with tools and have them at my disposal i was concidering making my own,has anyone got any advise on doing so and is there any do's and don'ts when building a vivarium?

im planning on a 48"x14"x20" made out of conti board, and from what ive read so far ill need a uvb light a heat lamp a fan for circulation a rock for bathing under the sun.

one I made myself.. It's easy if you put your mind to it, Vivs are so overpriced in the shops.

chances are, you can find one on here for less than the amount building one would cost. it tends to be cheap building, but second hand can be cheaper

I've been looking at doing my own n thiw thread seems a pretty good one

I wouldn't recommend at 4 x 14 x 20 build tho. If its for a beardie i would recommend if its due to space building one 4ft x 18.5 x 20, some ppl even say 18" depth is too small as dragons can grow up to 24" however my dragons are in 4ft x 18.5" x 21" vivs due to space and are perfectly fine 14" is definately too small tho

u shouldnt need a fan (i dont think) as long as you have proper ventilation, like mesh pannels for example

make sure you have two or three vents at least on it loobylou on here sells them as well as really cheap glass runners and handles. Fan isnt necessary for a beardie

hi i'm just building my own at the minute too. not that difficult. have just copies my first to be honest. be aware it will need sealing and tbh the books say 4ft x 2ft minimum for adult beardies. that's what i use and they make good use of the space. my friend's is 18 inch wise and her beardie always seems to struggle turning round, but then again it's viv is ornament heavy.

i bought an online guide to building a viv. i haven't used it but i can email it you if you pm me your email address.
