Default Beardy/rankin?!?!

My girlfriend has two beardies supposed male and female. They're are two years old each but the male is tiny and the lady massive. Not only is the little guy a lot smaller but has a completely different look to him, not just compared the to the female but even compared to my male beardies

He's 30cm from nose to tail tip. No tail nips. She's 50cm nose to tail. No tail nips.

I thought he might be a rankin. She's had both for two years and were tiny when she got them.

My 8month old male is almost as big as her two year old female.

Photos...

Default Beardie

Hiya,

They both look like beardies to me strange to have the female bigger than the male though. one of our beardies is small like your little boy and we thought she was a rankins. We took her to the local reptile shop and they said she is defo a beardie.

Hope this helps

Never heard of dwarf beardies apart from rankins but they're like a sub-species of beardies. The like fellas head is more helmet like and frog eyed, never seen this on other beardies so that why I thought he might be a rankin esp considering he's 2years and only 30cm max, which is the same adult size for adult rankin. Whereas the female is 50cm which is adult size for beardies

If they are kept in the same vivarium then I expect she is the dominant of the two and he has never had his fair share of food etc. to grow properly. I also doubt very much that he is indeed male if their has never been any attempt at mating if they are kept together.

What is their set up like? Size, temps etc....

Definitely a bearded dragon and not a pure rankins but could be a cross if they're not related?. They do grow at different rates and you can get some that are half the size of clutch mates. Rankins are not only smaller but have quite different markings, spikes and head size/shape

Are they kept in the same vivarium? As some other people have said.

The little one head bobs and the big one arm waves. They are kept in a 4x2x2 viv. They have probably never tried mating as my girlfriend keeps them at the same temp all year round, she doesnt induce brumation and they have never gone into it. They have always had their fair share of food as my GF spoonfeeds them locusts.
