That's actually very cool! I do quite like the over-cooked sort of HDR look, if that's what it's about, which that certainly is I think I use HDR all the time in my images - but in the way that (I'd like to think) if you went through my images you'd not know which used it an which didn't. But I don't think either way is wrong or right - and I do really like yours

LOL soz - sorted everything? So in the end you used RAWs and sharpened afterwards?

Ohh right I see, I didn't realise you meant you sharpened the one single file. Hmm looks even too soft for that though, I'll give it a try using the b/w layer and high pass filter method... Will sharpen the 3 raw files together, then (obviously ) convert them and try that. See what I prefer

Yeh but RAW files are just that... raw files. If you sharpen and re-input them to Photomatix they are still just the un-sharpened RAW file you had before. The sharpen part is saved in an "xmp" file which says "Apply 20% sharpening to RAW file IMG_2056" - the actual RAW file IMG_2056 will still be the same.

So, which is why I say you input RAW files and then export a tiff, which is high quality (not a lossy format), and then use the tiff in photoshop and use sharpening like an Unsharp mask to get what you want

    It failed? Mine's never failed...

Oh ok you mean it's the computer's fault not Photomatix? Shit Ollie that's rubbish!

HOWEVER, the settings are saved from last time! So imply upload the identical files and nothing needs to be done - once you go to toning, it will be perfect.

    Hehe me too

There's various ways - either convert RAWs to Tiffs as you always convert a raw file (but obviously all identical), then use the tiffs, or what I is simply use the actual raw files straight in there. I've seen some amazing HDR work and they tend to use straight raw files.

Then edit it in photomatix fiddling every setting, export as a tiff and edit the final touches in photoshop
