well you could either do that or get a compact which does both in one. that way only one bulb, one fixture and it'll look a little neater. i think thats what i'll be doing next but it gets really expensive when you have as many tanks as i do lol. will be shopping on e-bay for them i think as they are cheaper on there.

have you not considered getting a uv bulb rather than the tube? that way you could take the hood off and just have the clamp fittings centered over the basking area. the problem with tubes is they disperse the light all over the tank when they only really soak it up when basking. if you had a bulb you'll then kill two birds with one stone so to speak. the humidity with a hood is a serious thing with turtles thats the only thing! again though if temperary not too bad but not for long.

you've probably already been told but just keep your eyes on them just in case bullying starts. i have a few turtles that just dont like being seperated from each other so long standing friendships between them must exsist!
i think we have to be sneaky and keep them on there toes otherwise they would get lazy lol.
as for the light bulb thing as long as its only temperary then it should be fine. all i did is put a wooden beam (a plank off one of the old beds lol) across the top of the tank and clipped them on like that. i think i have a pick somewhere will pm it you so you can see what i mean. since the pic tho i then bought some fake leaf vine and twirled it around it to decorate so it doesnt look out of place. i would show you a pic of that but the bloody cameras on the blink!!

lol do you realise you have posted that on your own visitors page lol.

lol at your son and friends, when we have guests over they spend most of their time staring into the turtle tanks too, i'm always fighting to get their attention. as for the filter are you on freecycle? i got two lovely hugggeeee externals on there for absolutely nothing!! if that falls then all you can do is shop about and try to find the cheapest, i know they are a small fortune but its what we do for our critters lol. jays the same he'll ask how much i've spent and say less than a tenner heres the change what he doesnt know is i seperated it on the counter and charged the dearer items to my card lol what he doesnt know can't hurt him lol
