This might sound stupid but the moist hide would go on which side...? (hot/cold)

not a daft question at all ~ in smaller vivs I have the moist-hide on the cooler side; in larger vivs where there is more room I have the box more towards the middle

it can be down to personal preferance ~ some do and some like me don't ~ I've found that having a moist-hide on the hot end can not only increase the general overall humidity in the viv (which isn't needed) but also dry the moist-hide out quick.
