Exclamation Heat need to know

Hi my grandma's treated me and bought a glass terrarium with a heat matt hides, water bowl digital thermometer and a log.

But do i need a thermostsat, cause the lady at the reptile shop said it wasnt nessasary, just put the matt on and set to the right tempreture.

If i do need a thermostat, how would i attach the thermostat to the heat pad.

Thanks

Oh right i'm going to get a thermosat now, but how do you connect it to the matt, and how do you use the stat, is it just to change the temp's so basically you can put the tempreture to anything you want.

you can get cheap mat stats from metal face on here he sells habistat ones for £25. to set them up you have a plug socket like thing on the thermostat that you plug your heat mat into then you plug the thermostat into the mains socket and place the probe that comes with the thermostat in the viv where you want to regulate the temp at. the stat has a dial that you can set at the temp you wantso when it gets to that temp where the probe is the stat cuts off the power.

Many shops claim thermostats are unnecessary as they are concerned adding another £30 to a sale may put people off buying completely. Thermostats are very necessary and should always be used in conjunction with any heat source.

Now this is really weird though, where i got my corn, they were all on heat matts which were unstatted. And they havent been using them for every animal theyve had, and their all fine and live to maximum age, and the temps stay the same.

I would avoid taking information off this shop, They just cannot be bothered to fork out the cash for stats they probably get many deaths.

Thermostats are very necessary, Your snake could die of dehydration/over heating without one as most reach over 20F over reccomended temps on the hot side of a corns tank (reccomended - 86-88 I believe)
