Default Great crested Newt??

My wife was clearing weeds from our wildlife pond yesterday when this [http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2596/...34848c6_b.jpg] became entangled we took a couple of pictures, to hep ID it and then put it back. It's belly was a fiery red colour. Having checked on line and in a few books, I'm convinced it's a Great Crested Newt - perhaps immature? Tell me I'm a fool!

Sorry couldn't get pic up. If it is great crested then as you probably know they are protected and as far as I'm aware you are not allowed to disturb them or destroy their habitat. So having them would be exciting but also could be a pain.
p.s. In any case - welcome to the forum!

Great Crested Newts have a yellow and white belly. If your newt had a fiery red colour belly then it is most likely to be a male common newt.

But a viewable picture would help with a positive ID.
