Default Heat mat Help (leapord Geckos)

Hey,
i have just bought an exo terra medium size heat mat for my wooden viv.

i have placed the mat under the lino tile inside the viv.... this should be ok right?

also do i plug the heat mat straight into the mains or do i use a thermostat?
i one that i used with a heat bulb, but at night the heat turns off

1 - yep it'll be fine under the lino
2 - into a thermostat. It should be a mat stat / pulse stat / temperature stat. If it's a microclimate dimming stat you had then it might be ok. The habistat dimming stats need a minimum input of 40watts before it realises there's something plugged in.
If you don't use a stat then the heat will continue to rise and be too hot.
3 - you can leave the heat on all night

When the magic eye in my microclimate reads that it is night time, it automatically stops the heat ouput!

That would not be the best thermostat to use then as Leos are nocturnal and really need the heat at night to be able to digest their food. Get a cheap mat stat to be best.
