Default newbie leo advise

don't know if people have read the latest issue of practical reptile keeping and saw the article written by a vet talking about a case of a ill leopard gecko and that it was all down to bad advice given to owners.
anyway the main thing that i noticed was how the vet said leo's need uv light.
now I'm thinking of getting a leo so been doing lots of research books, caresheets, websites etc and even spoke to someone in pet shop who said they don't need light about heat... you get the idea basically the same as most people who keep them
so you can understand why I'm a little confused and obviously i don't wanna make any mistakes or make any leo ill

just wanted to know what people think or what is most commonly used
thank you
