baby chameleon uvb lamp

hi,could someone tell me what uv they use on there baby chameleons, i was thinkin exo terra repti glo 5%? uvb.is this ok? im trying to learn as much as i can b4 my female has babys .

when i bought mine i had a 5% uv tube but since talking to my reptile specialist vet i bought a 12% uv tube

Hi,

These choices can only be made with the species and the height of the viv in mind.

Uv decreases in power the further away from the lamp light travels.

So we need to re-create a wild uv index in our enclosures.

How high is your viv?

hi john, its a repti breeze 3ft high, im going to use it when the baby chams hatch,but i was wondering what uvb is best for the new borns as theyll be with me untill atleast 12 wks of age.would 5% be ok? or the T5 12% one? Thanks,regards Debi

hi,

yes a 5% lamp of any kind would be next to useless in this type of setup. the mesh will half the power of the lamp anyway.

may i suggest our new UVFlood fitting. it is being used with great sucess by Cham keepers as it is very powerful 12% T5 Power compact but has avery special reflector as part of the kit that forces light and energy from light through the mesh. it lights a targeted area so that you can maintain a decent gradient in these tall narrow units and still provide good shade.

the unit is totally waterproof and flicker free and can be obtained in some cases cheaper than a full size T5 system. In your set up i think it will be perfect!

SORRY!!! ive found it Arcadia D3+ UV Flood 24W Compact Lamp - Surrey Pet Supplies ill order this soon as poss, thanks for ya help guys x
