Default Advice re: corn snakes

Hi all,

I am new to the site and am considering getting a corn snake, I have been looking for a while but don't really know a great deal other than what I have read online etc.

Am I right in thinking I will need to feed about once a week, and spot clean then give a full clean out about every three weeks?

What sort of cost should I expect monthly to keep a corn snake?

I have been looking at pets at home and seen that they are £49 and they have starter viv. set ups for £79. Does anyone know if they are any good? They seem to have good records on feeding etc. If not could you point me in the right direction. I am in north manchester.

Also does the morph have any great bearing on temperament, health etc. as I fancy a snow morph.

Thanks in advance.
Gavin

I got my first snake from pets at home, whilst she was more expensive than if id of gotten her from a breeder i wasnt too bothered, so if you've seen one you like then go for it as for the set up, you can get the same basic starter set up from online such as swell reptiles, blue lizard etc

must admit I got my beardie and my corn from there, and yes they are a bit more exspensive for example they sell a normal for 49 but online u could get one for 20, although a snow would cost 35 maybe.
but defo get the setup online, I got mine from blue lizard which I can't fault, I got the 18in terrarium starter kit, it cost 75 and has pretty much all u need to get started, except the thermometers and hygrometer but there cheap as chips anyway, pets at home do the same kit but its 95 and u don't get a heat mat or stat, so defo check out blue lizard

Thanks for the replies so far. I will look at blue lizard etc. The set up I have seen includes everything except decoration for 79.00. I know I will need a bigger one later.

Can anyone recommend a breeder or shop to try in my area for a snow.

Cheers
Gav

Swell reptiles seem to be fantastic for their kits. As far as reptiles go, there's alot of online breeders around with reasonable prices and often a lot of different morphs.

Viper and vine are in prestwich and they usually have a few morphs of corns to choose from. Won't be as cheep as a breeder but you may just want to pop in and have a look at what they have got.

i've not seen the PAH starter kits, but if you go for any "starter kit" make sure a thermostat is included as many lack this vital piece of kit.
