Default Leopard Gecko lighting help!

Hey there i recently bought a couple of baby Leos, i'm currently using a heat bulb as there heating, i'm using a blue bulb but its pretty bright i don't want to disturb there sleeping pattern. What bulb can i use alternatively? can i use a red bulb? will it be as bright? can red night bulbs be used during the day time? I know i could avoid this problem by purchasing a heat matt but i am using a wooden viv so its hard to install it at the moment as i don't have the right tools.
