Default Thinking of getting a Crested Gecko...

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum and new to reptiles and I'm thinking of getting a crestie. I was wondering if any of you can point me to some good books or online guides, as I want to do as much research as possible before getting the little guy.

I've got to save before I can afford the whole setup, so I've got plenty of time to learn as much as I can.

Cheers in advance,
MisterJ

I've got another couple of questions, if anyone can help:

We have a cat, and was wondering if anyone else keeps cats and reptiles together? I understand I'll have to make sure the potential crestie may have to be kept in a room that's inaccessible to the cat face, and I'm sure I can discourage her from unwanted interest in the little guy with the Squirty Bottle of Doom!

Also, does anyone know of any breeders or reptile specialists in the Merseyside area? I know there's a couple of shops in Liverpool but I've heard they can be a bit iffy...

Cheers again,
MisterJ

Hey I remember when I was wanting my little Cresty back in 2011, if you say you have time, go to youtube and search for "Stolenmilkcrate" that woman taught me most I know and my gosh she goes in depth! Hope this helps!

Research for a while before buying, and anyway answering your questions;
Some people say that there cats try to "attack" there cresties, but im unsure on this and as for the shops, i don't know sorry.

Welcome

Good choice with Cresties; fab pets

Please check out our website for a caresheet and lots of information on Cresties

HOME - Wiltshire Geckos

We also run a group on Facebook called Crested Geckos:

http://www.facebook.com/groups/277018952415393/

And there are breeders in your area on there very friendly, lots of advice and lots of pic posting etc

We've heard a lot of stories of cats killing Cresteds by sitting on their viv and breaking in the mesh on the top so I would recommend keeping the cat out of the room the crestie will be in

Cheers for the replies! I'll check those links out.

As for the cat face situation, we can find a room to keep her out and the crestie in =D

There is a couple of reptile shops not too far from where I live that are decent Warrington Pets and Exotics, Leroys Lizard Lounge also in Warrington, depends how far you want to travel. I'm not sure on any breeder tho but you could try classifieds and post a wanted add.
