Am I being a bit mental...

...or is it actually quite hard to find a 4X2X2 viv for sale brand new? Everywhere I look it says that this is the optimum size for a beardie, so it feels weird that I cant find many actually for sale!? Even in actual shops and not online! I can't seem to find many at all, and the ones that I can find all seem to come with a cabinet which I really don't want!
I am also struggling to find a second hand one of gumtree/ebay/preloved in my area.

Please feel free to point me in the right direction?

Unfortunately, as much as I would like to build my own, I have decided that I just have not go the time to spare!

Thanks!

Clare

It does appear to be rather difficult recently. I know that vivexotics previous range were larger dimensions and they've for some reason reduced the size. I am totally lost as to why, it would make a huge difference both in general size to manoeuvre and to maintain proper temps.

Hopefully someone will be able to help, I haven't been viv hunting for a while. I'd suggest contacting some viv builders as their prices should be fairly cheap for a 4x2x2, usually of better quality too.

A bloke earlier was asking about suitable varnish for one of these:

Although a decent size I am led to believe they are extremely poor products. Rough/sharp edges and just generally poorly manufactured. Having said that I have no personal experience but I'd definitely suggesting looking in to it more if you're tempted, possibly start a thread in the habitat or equipment section.

pity you arent closer to me as i have a 4x2x2 for sale.

No idea mate, just noticed how reasonable it seemed when recommending varnish for the guy

Knew I had heard something... http://www.reptileforums.co.uk/forum...1-will-do.html

Looks like the same viv to me. In all honesty after some modification as mentioned in the thread linked above it might not be too bad for a BD, anything that requires moisture would render it useless but an arid rep should be ok if you can sort the little niggles and dangerous edges. Maybe send him a PM.

So that nasty viv is my only option for a new viv? Well that sucks a bit. I must say I am really surprised about that as beardies seem to be soooo popular! Shocking! And actually quite upsetting as this means that pretty much all beardie owners walking into a pet/reptile shop will walk away without the right setup! Well I might go back to thinking about making my own as I am pretty sure I could use better materials than the one being sold above. It just means my poor little guy will have to stay in his rubbish 3.5 x1.5 x 1.5 for a while longer.

Perhaps will look for a custom builder too.
Thanks guys!

I was about to say you will find one, its just not easy! It is terrible you're right, unfortunately other than trying to educate people on here there is little that can be done.

stevier 10-01-2013 08:05 AM

The other alternative of course is to build your own

Lord Vetinari 10-01-2013 08:58 AM

Does Volly still make vivs? if so he's the chap to ask!

tomcannon 10-01-2013 09:16 AM

I believe he does, just not custom sizes anymore. But a 4x2x2 will be fine I'm sure. Best to ring him as he's a busy man.

I have one of the old viv exotic ranges in the 4x2 and it beggers belief that they've stopped selling them.. it's the worst move they've ever made as a company. The "bearded dragon" vivariums they sell now are too small! You may be able to go through a custom built one, or better still -- make it yourself!

I have recently bought a beech 4' x 2' x 2' viv from Blue Lizard Reptiles. It is self assembly and easy to construct as the instructions are very clear. It is good quality and I am very pleased with it. Highly recommended!

Theres a woman on FB who goes by NorfolkAndSuffolkVivariums I think shes based in Hopton, could be wrong though

Sunny_16 11-01-2013 09:17 PM

Honestly you guys are the most helpful people on Earth! Thank you for the links and the advice, will be buying a new viv for him from blue lizard reptiles on pay day!

I still might get round to making a custom viv one day (probably in the summer holidays - I am a teacher) but I just want him out of the smaller viv for now! He is settling in so nicely and really want the best for him!

Cheers,

Clare
