Default Heat mat

Iv got a 6.5w heat mat and a microclimate b1 thermostat,

Problem Iv got is when plugged into the thermostat it only seems to reach up to 28c even after 2 hours

This is reading from a digital hygrometer and thermometer, is this right or should it be getting hotter warmer.

I'm just worried as Iv heard heat mats can burn snakes and I'm worried that this one might not be working properly, and I don't want to risk the welfare of a snake by not being sure

The stat is set at about 27 and the thermometers are now reading 30,

The thermostat sensor and thermometer sensor are right next to each other on the tissue inside the tank with the heat mat under the tank,

I'm using 2 digital thermometers I bought off of someone on here, they measure humidity and temperature

I was just about to ask that

The heat mat should cover 1/3 - 1/2 the viv floor..

If its a piddley thing you may need a bigger one and higher watt...

This one quite easily covers a 1/3 of the tank, I'm just testing it out with a old glass fish tank as I want to make sure it's working properly first, but when my taranium turns up ill be using that

Personal I would go for a ceramic on a pulse stat, it give a better ambient tempature,

Digital thermometers are quite know for giving out readings that can be a degree or two out, I got two exo Terra and put the probes in the same place they were both a different reading, I still use digital along with a lazer "gun" thermometer.

Mats can burn and cause thermal blocking in heavy bodie snakes yes, if you use a mat silicone the probe to the mat and burry it under the substrate, always with mats have the probe attached to the mat. I perfer to not use a mat in a wooden viv.

That's my personal thoughts, I know many people use mats in viv without any problems

Turn the stat up and adjust according to reading on thermometer. The temp dials on stats are not reliable.

The reason your mat may not be warming up enought is because there is no insulation properties with all glass sides, if you can get some polistrine and put that around the tank leaving the front "clear" as the viv will look
