Default Setting up a vivarium

I'm setting up my vivarium for my future crested gecko. Do they need UV or not. Some people say yes, others say no. I'm really confused.

I dont use uv with my crestie. Some people say they benefit from it but mine hides away from any light at all so I dont use it. My crestie is now a big chunky boy with a great appetite and is very active at night

Default Setting up a vivarium

Okay, thanks, guys. My crestie will start in a vivarium measuring 30x30x45, and as it grows I will move it into a 45x45x60. I'm thinking of using a heat mat and a reptile bulb for heating but I have never used a heat mat before, what would be the best size of heat mat to use? I thought a 40w light bulb would be good, the bulb will be on a light bracket, allowing it to be moved closer to the mesh cover in colder weather. Does this sound okay, any advice will be much appreciated.

Habistat Heat Mat 11x11 inch 12W - Heatmats and Heatstrips - Reptile Heating - Blue Lizard Reptiles - Reptile Shop

If you check through the above link it says the size of each heatmat in inches, you want to cover roughly 1/3 to 1/2 of the floor to allow them to go between hot and cold sides easily. I imagine you'd want to use a 4w (5 x 4 inch) or 7w (6 x 11 inch)

Bulb sounds fine
