Default Mental cat!!

Hi all, I have noticed my cat doing some very strange things.
Sometimes she will just be sitting there not doing anything, then suddenly she will look at the wall, then quickly look at the ceiling, then sprint away into the kitchen! It's as if she can see things that aren't there.
She also runs around, jumps up onto the arm of the chair, scratches it, then sprints off again. Sometimes she arches her back and her tails puffs out.
It's completely random when she does it, and she calms down again quite quickly.
Does anybody else's do this? Does anybody know why?

I don't think my description is very good but you have to see it to fully appreciate how strange it is. lol.

Just a standard tabby. lol. I'll have to try and film it when she does it next. It's as if she becomes possessed for a few minutes then goes back to normal again.

hmm, that could be the case here then. Since moving to a new house she has been a bit wary of going outside and spends most of her time indoors. I have tried looking for information on this but there's nothing on the net!

Sounds like she's just feeling playful! Our two do it often, racing through the flat with their backs arched and the tails plumed up sideways - BANANA-TAIL!

This is what is termed a Mad Half hour although it can last just a few minutes. Its normal cat behaviour but can be quite disturbing to watch Some of mine do it frequently

Libby seems to have 'mad half hours' whenever she isn't asleep

She kept launching herself up the wardrobe door and making little chirruping noises the other day and I couldn't see what it was she was chasing. Anyways after an hour of this and pinging around the bedroom it turned out she had seen a tiny tiny tiny little fly.

Yes, mine do it too! That's when the ornaments get broken cos they run wild (although they're all blu-taked down now!). It's mainly only Purrdy who does it now, though - the rest have calmed down as they've got old.

Like you Shell, we just call it the "mad half hour"

And we have banana tails too Red, but ours hang down like a hanging banana - cos it's like they've forgot it's there in their sheer delight at being mad!
