Default Coast to Coast exotics Animal list 10th Jan 2007

Coast to Coast Exotics, 124 North Road, Darlington, County Durham, DL1 2EJ.
TEL; 01325 283756. FAX; 01325 255060 E-MAIL; [email protected]

Welcome to our new animal stock list. As always, there are additions and deletions as stock comes and goes. We usually manage to replace most species as they sell, but if you don’t see what you require keep popping back for a look.

Now the festive season is behind us we can start arranging new shipments, so although this update shows little in new animals, keep popping back for a look – as things will change quickly in the coming weeks. There is a vast array of Kings and Milks, some very rarely available in this country. Also an expanded list of Leopard gecko colour morphs, these are getting very popular in this country now. Both the Kings/Milks and the Leopard geckos are produced by our breeding friends in the US.

These are the animals we had in stock in our shop in Darlington on the current date. Please remember we only sell animals (apart from inverts and spiders) to customers that can collect from the shop, we do not sell animals on the net, nor by any form of mail order. We care about the animals we sell and worry too much about their welfare to do this! Please visit this page often - we endeavour to update frequently. If you have a specific wants list contact us and we will do our best for you. Although this list is compiled with care and vast herpetological experience we accept that mistakes and errors can happen. We welcome any suggestions.

We would like to bring the following point to your attention:1. Colour morphs in Corn snakes has now got to a level, way beyond what could have been comprehended a few years ago. Presently there are nearly 200 colour / pattern variations (maybe more when combined!) and, as the majority are man-made they are very subjective. Some of the differences are also very small. What one person describes as a particular colour morph, another person will see something very different. Also, many Corn snake hatchlings look so radically different to when they are adult it is impossible to judge what they will look like later in life. For this reason we only describe the different morphs to the best of our ability and suggest that you firstly visit to make sure that you are buying what you require, and secondly keep in mind that when he/she grows up there may be some variation from the “perfect” example banded around on the various internet sites and in books.

Albino Strains (Tremper, Rainwater, and Bell)

There are three strains of albino leopard gecko, each named after the last name of the person who first produced the particular strain. Las Vegas albino is another name for the Rainwater strain. All three strains are recessive traits, therefore hets can be created for these traits. All three strains of albino are sensitive to bright lights, and will close their eyes tightly if exposed to bright light. Additionally, many will not feel comfortable eating during the daytime due to their sensitivity to light.

Each of these strains are genetically incompatible, meaning if you were to breed a Tremper albino with a Rainwater or Bell albino all babies would be normal looking (spotted) and heterozygous for both strains of albino. Apparently there are three different ways to create an albino!

Rainwater Strain:

Rainwater albinos are the next most common of the three albino strains after Tremper albinos. Rainwater albinos are often thought of as pinker than other strains. I have observed this to not always be true, as Tremper albinos can be bright pink or white if incubated at a high temperature. I have experimented with the effect of incubation temperature on coloration of baby Rainwater albinos, and observed only a slight difference between babies incubated at 80° or 90° F.
i have seen rainwater albino advertised in the uk before (hence why i have that info saved on the bookmarks page) , but have no idea if they were the real thing or not..

as a morph they were developed by a guy called Tim Rainwater, who lived in Las Vegas.. hence the two names they get called..

there are several people on geckospot.com (a uk gecko forum site) who say they have them... i can't tell if they are UK residents or not mind you.. but i am fairly sure rainwaters are over here already. according to gossip, tim rainwater did a bunk with a load of peoples money, so people stopped calling them "rainwater" so much, and used the name Las Vegas instead as it gave him less kudos.

Don't worry, I know and appreciate your concerns. We are careful who and how we sell the WC, LTC and CF animals. Many of the species are not bred in large enough numbers in captivity, and without caring keepers like us and yourself will never become regularily CB - so in the mean time we need to still supply these species. This allows for keepers to have availability of species not currently available other than WC / CF to start breeding programmes and also for fresh blood into the other lesser captived bred breeding programmes. This is the kind of keeper we cater for with these kinds of animals. Now I do take great offence to seeing very commonly bred species such as Leo's and Corns as WC. Now when I started out (about 30 years ago) it was very different - there was only WC! Due to committed people like ourselves (and suppliers of WC) we can now offer CB Corns, Leo's etc constantly, and even other species such as Royals that are currently not bred in large enough numbers to meet demand, all started from WC supplies. We are currently putting lots of efforts into many breeding programmes here in the UK, and also working with the captive farmers in the third world countries to improve standards until that day comes that our (and I mean that collectively - as in the hobby) own breeding programmes can withstand the demand within the market place. Getting back to your original concerns - I hope you understand my feelings of duty to my fellow herpetologists and hobbyists - we don't sell them without due care and attention.
