Forgive my ignorance, what are the laws in the uk regarding keeping grass snakes? I always wanted some growing up but thought they were either illegal to sell or just were not available in the hobby.

super intrigued here

They are perfectly legal. If you want to you can go and catch one. But good luck feeding it.
Selling them is quite legal if they are captive bred.
And as these are Natrix natrix, not Natrix helvetica, then there is no difference between these and a corn snake, legally.
And yes, British grass snakes, Natrix helvetica, are also quite legal to sell, if they were hatched from eggs laid from a pairing of either captive bred snakes, or wild caught that were not gravid when captured.
Incidentally, I have a pair of these, they are great snakes, rarely seen, and great feeders. My female is now taking unscented defrost mice.
And yes, they are very rarely offered!

I can't really improve on Ian's answer. All correct. These particular animals are N. n. megalocephala. From Kubleti in Georgia.

These have almost doubled in size now, a few left for Doncaster or SRAS in October.
