perhaps there were mite eggs hidden under the ventral flap which hatched in the car on the way home, hence not seen when in the bustle of the breeders meeting

Thanks Khonsu, hopefully that's the case; have been beating myself up for not seeing them! Hoping they stay away now! Thanks!

I bought 2 hog islands from a breeder opposite this table and they showed no signs of mite for 5 days. The snakes even fed in this time and no mites. Then on the 6th day I had mites on both these new snakes. Treated with Frontline on the day they were spotted and twice since. Havent seen 1 mite since after first treatment

Hey Matt, can I ask did you get frontline from vet? Or did you buy over counter cat/dog stuff from store? If so; how did you adjust the dose? One of my guys has fed, but other not yet

You should pretreat your reprooms skirting boards and around vivs etc.
Remember to wash and change clothes after dealing with hoggies as the mites will use you for a taxi.

Carringtons/adrap will be good for carpets and skirting boards also around vivs. Keep your hogs away when spraying

Don't just put clothes into the washing basket, put them in a bag or wash straight away.

Frontline is not licensed for use on reptiles. You need the spray, which is prescription only. So you either lie to the vet, or the vet lies for you. It can also kill snakes.
Get some callingtons or Beaphar Insect Spray. These are not controlled so no prescription needed, and are licensed for treating reptiles.

imo best product for treating quarantine tanks is PROVENT A MITE

one spray treatment remains active for 30 days killing the mites and also killing any that hatch from eggs

imo it's the best mite product on the market

cheers shaun
