Default Finders Keepers ?

Just a random thought that popped into my head
(there is only so much time i can dedicate to thinking about Jeffers)

If you were to find a snake (none native and not wild), what would you do ?

Would place an advert on Gumtree?
Contact the police to collect ?
Give it to the RSPCA ?
Contact Rep shops ?
Or stay quiet ?

I would advise against RSPCA, they put healthy dogs down, why would a snake fare any better. Village Vets in Liverpool has such a snake, from the above said, a dwarf boa, very dark may be Sonoran anerytheristic, female. It won't be there long, hopefully, may ne the owner will turn up?

hopefully have the means to put it in a rub safely then contact police and place adverts to try and find owner, with online nowadays it's so much easier, in our town there's a local 'spotted' page so you can post up on there, hopefully owner would be local, it's actually re-united a few owners with lost/escaped pets, I wouldn't give out distinguishing marks/colours as the owner would know those!

no way would I give any animal to the rspca to 'take care' of (just personal opinion!)

Would place an advert on Gumtree? And risk any tom dick or harry coming forward to say it's there snake.
Contact the police to collect ? who will tell you to contact the rspca
Give it to the RSPCA ? who will take it away and sell it
Contact Rep shops ? possibility although still open to anyone claiming it's theirs
Or stay quiet ? Give the snake a new secure home and let it live happily ever after

I dunno I'd have to give it some thought

In the past when I found a non-native Kingsnake I posted an ad and flyers for a found snake without a description as well as informed my local vet offices and animal control that I had it and was looking for its owner.

I stated in the ad that if they had lost a snake, to please send me pictures or a detailed description so I could be sure it was theirs and I would drive to bring it back to them. I did it that way as I didn't trust someone not to message just looking for a free pet.

Accidents can and do happen and if something horrible occurred and say a snake of mine got out while I was on holiday or a similar situation, I would hope another person would do the same trying to get my snake back to me.

With that Kingsnake, no one came forward (only missing snakes were a Corn and a baby Burmese) and after a month of searching I did end up keeping the little guy.

Would place an advert on Gumtree? its worth a try but you will probably get every free be hunter trying to get it saying its there's
Contact the police to collect ? I don't think they will care and just say phone the rspca
Give it to the RSPCA ? I would never phone them as I will probably just be put down or not looked after properly as most of them no nothing about reptiles
Contact Rep shops ? i would probably do this one as they may no the person
Or stay quiet ? and you must do something as said put up some flyers around the area and see what happens but if no one comes forward then keep it safe or give it to someone that you no will look after it
