Default Advice on Kingsnake feeding

Hi everyone

Looking for some quick advice with Elmo, my Kingsnake.
He's coming up for 3 years old and 3 months ago I moved him up to jumbo mice.

The thing is he's always hungry... I feed him every 2/3 days at the mo and wanted to ask if this is ok or if he needs something bigger than a jumbo mouse and what I should go for.

Hiya i think every 2/3 is far to frequent i usually feed mine once every 7-10 days how many jumbos are you feeding him?

What does he look like? thin/normal/fat? there's no reason you should be feeding him that often, assuming he is around full grown, I would have thought a small rat weiner once every couple of weeks would do it, you can always vary that too so sometimes feed a larger meal and increase the gap between feeds. I don't personally take a regimented approach to feeding, sometimes I'll drop in a couple of chicks othertimes a really big meal. if they want it they'll eat it!

Jumbo every 2 -3 days is way, way too much

How big is he, and how much does he weigh? King snakes are known to eat - or try to eat - just about anything that moves, and would eat all the time, given the chance...

They are opportunistic feeders in nature, and will eat any time, as much as they can, because they don't know when their next meal's coming. But as a pet, fed that often, especially now he's an adult, he would quickly become very dangerously obese.

If you let us know how big he is, people on here can advice how often to feed - as a guess, I'd say no more than every 10 -14 days at 3 years old, on a Jumbo.

I'll post some pictures in 2 days as I fed him today. I used to feed him every weekend... It's only since moving up to Jumbo that he's got like this.

Before he would feed and I'd handle him 3 days later etc. Now he's showing hunting behaviour after 3 days which he never used to.

Thanks for the posts... I knew I was going about this wrong

Wow he must be a fatty! Mine is fed 1 adult mouse every 7 days.
When they want to eat they will eat eat eat....even if it doesn't do them any good.

At the minute mine is thrashing around as he's come into season so food is by no means on his agenda

Give him a larger prey item and longer in between feeds and he will soon settle down again.
