I just go and get something like Willow, (don't just hack into any old tree, obviously. :whistling2 select the most interesting bit, and chop that bit out.
I put it in the bath/shower and give it a good old scrub with a stiff brush and hot water. I don't remove the bark as I think it looks better, just a personal thing. Allow it to dry off and put it in the viv.
No chemicals. No baking. No problems. : victory:
I get all mine from the great outdoors. I don't even wash them. I make sure they come from chemical free areas. I sometimes let them dry out for a few weeks before putting into a viv but often I just bung em straight in like I do with the leaf litter I collect.
I did buy a couple of natural vines from Bioactive herps. Can't remember what they're called now but they're in my gopher snake viv. Not as pricey as the other large wood pieces and look really nice.
i have no evidence to back this up but i heard (yes i did read it on the internet once) that branches from fruit trees are safe for snakes and super strong
I reckon I'm going to get a few branches from the great outdoors. My parents have a few apple trees so I'll see about profiting a branch or two. I'll also get a bit of cork bark tube. I'll have to pay out for it but I do like the look of cork bark and I think it will be interesting for him to play around on.
