Default Can you help me?

Hello! I've just joined this forum.
I really really want a Ball/Royal Python. This would be my first snake. However, I have one big problem. My mother, whom I live with, holds some kind of objection to animals being raised purely to be food for another animal.. That's the only way I can think of explaining it.. This means she doesn't like the idea of mice being raised as food for snakes... Can anyone think of ways to help me persuade her?

Does she have cats or dogs? There are animals in those tins of cat and dog food also or does she just not like the cute furry ones being eaten?

Yes we do have dogs, which is why I don't get it.. I suppose she must feel like cows, sheep, chickens and such are raised for human consumption anyway, or something...

Maybe explain that you buy the rats/mice frozen, she may be imagining that you will be feeding live food?

Default Mice

I suggest you try her with the dog/cat thing and if that doesnt work or she needs more convincing, tell her that rats and mice are rodents and that they are not the most... Tell her she wont have to see it eat or be in the process. The first time i thawed a mouse in water on the counter my dad flipped. I hope you get your snake!

PS read up on lots of snakes before you decide what you want.

garter snakes eat fish if that's any help, their not balls, but their great captives without the feeding issues many ball keepers face.

More interesting too imo.

Op, other than making the point that it's no different to any animal being raised for consumption, i'm not sure what else there is. It sounds entirely irrational and hypocritical. However, that might not be the wisest angle to take either.

If you get an adult Royal, you can feed it on day old chicks - the male chicks are discarded as they are no use for egg production, so they're simply an unwanted byproduct of human dairy consumption.

What about roast chicken, lamb, ham, bacon, eggs, milk....... Maybe not milk but you know, they're bred animals to benefit the feeding of another animal.

Pepperami is a long shot, the dog food deal is your golden bullet!
Poor little rabbits in jelly.......
Poor little lambs, never made it to the shears.......
Poor little livers, something is having a bad day now it's liver is in a dog food factory!
I think you can even get duck dog food, what did the ducks ever do?
