Who in the UK has been prosecuted and is in jail because of this?
Many people think it is illegal, there is no part of the law anywhere at all that states 'it is illegal to feed one animal to another.'
The relevant laws only cover welfare of animals kept and ensuring they do not suffer unduly. The 'grey area' comes when people interpret what 'undue suffering' means - and whether live feeding comes under this.

Was just searching the internet and came across a few cases of people breeding for their snakes who were now Ďin jailí.
Either way I thought it was actually illegal to be honest, obviously mistaken! Though unsure of how thatís right in the first place? We wouldnít breed cats and dogs ourselves to feed any of our animals as we wouldnít think thatís right.. And I know Tegus/Monitors/Snappy turtles etc would really enjoy them Iím sure!

United Kingdom law, under the Animal Welfare Act 1996, says you may not feed vertebrates, live, to a predator.

You're good at finding 'things' on the internet that are incorrect.

The one case that muddied this up was that of Steven Riddell back in 2015, thanks to a newspaper headline (I think the Daily Herald) saying he is in jail for breeding rats and mice for his snakes.
Steven Riddell was not jailed for breeding mice and rats for his snakes.
He was jailed because the conditions he was keeping the rats and mice in were inappropriate. It was a welfare issue.

The Animal Welfare Act was amended in 2006. There is nothing within it that says you may not feed vertebrates to a predator.

Again, there is nothing anywhere in UK law stating live feeding is illegal.

What causes more suffering a few seconds for a rodent or months of starvation for a snake?
