Sorong Barneck *aka* Morelia Amethistina

After nearly two years waiting for the right animal, we picked up our first scrub this weekend.

As a new member of the scrub club, I can honestly say that nothing compares to the thrill of keeping this species. And although we are not in the habit of naming our snakes, such a charasmatic little critter deserves one. So, meet "Mishu":

Absolutely, they have this aura that just makes you shudder when you're around them. Also I think this little girl is the start of an obsession ...

She is quite calm, but then she's CB, so that helps. I think there is an adolescent stage to scrubs where they tend to become less tractable, before often mellowing as they fill out. I have met a few Southerns like this.

But she is so switched on, very alert, which IMO is one of the joys of the species. You really have to interact with them, and learn how to handle them (if they let you!) rather than is the case with other, more docile, species perhaps.

absolutely gorgeous.
I've seen 2 or 3 scrubs in person now, though never handled one. I want...

I like scrubs.... Maybe one day we'll join the club as well....Good luck with her and let us know how it goes.

The first time I saw a pair in person, I knew nothing about them. It was a pair of Meraukes who were a pleasure to handle, and left a great impression on me (and no, not with their teeth!). It wasn't until after I'd done some research, saw the size of scrubs teeth & read about their fearsome reputation, that I became slightly anxious about holding them next time around! Personally I think it's all about confidence. Keep an eye out for a young, CB one, and I'm sure you won't regret taking the plunge.

Thanks, will do. I think we've had quite a lot of luck already - handled her lots and still no bites!
