HELP!! when should i feed my corn snake fuzzies?

i am new to keeping snakes and these are my first! i have 2 young corn snakes, about 5-6 months old, one is about 14 inches and the other about a foot. they were both fed a pinky on saturday and still seemed quite active as if they were still searching for more prey. is it possible they were? by sunday night at around 10 O'clock there was no bulge in there bodies. does this mean they are ready to move to fuzzies or should i just feed multiple pinkies? i have heard that pinkys do not have as much nutrition as a fuzzy. so would a fuzzy be a better option to feeding multiple pinkys?

Ive got two corns of the same age, Im feeding mine a fuzzy each every 5 days. Corns are bottomless pits all mine will always look for more after i feed them. Only offer them wot their due tho otherwise they will end up over weight. Mine usually take about 2/3 days'ish to completely digest and pass their food items.

so i should move up to fuzzies? when i got them about a month ago it did take about 2-3 days for them to fully digest the pinky which is obviously nomal but not anymore. oh and another thing they still havent shed yet whilst in my care, could this because they arent growing enough because they are not getting enough nutrients to grow properly?

I would move them onto fuzzies yes. My corns generally shed once a month'ish (except the bigger ones 3yrs+).

My two youngsters have shed once since ive had them (got them on 15th Jan) and that was a couple of days ago.

i normally go around 22-23 grams a small fuzzy/fluff. some will still only take 2 pinks, but most will move on,.

I usually go from one pink, to two and then when they still hunting after that, to the smallest fuzzie!

cornmorphs 16-02-2009 03:00 PM

the problem with that, is that corns will always 'appear' to be wanting more.

i am slightly worried about feeding fuzzies as i dont want to put my babies in any danger, im sure im not the only one that has ever worried about this! is there any signs to look out for when i first feed a fuzzy that will show that they are struggling and is there anythin i could do if i think they are? the pinkies they eat now are gone in about 2mins maybe less! so they should be ok right?

cornmorphs 16-02-2009 03:13 PM

what does the snake weigh?
generally, you will get told that the item must not be bigger than 1.5 x the thickest part of the snakes girth.

im not sure but the pinkies dont really show much of a lump when swallowed as they did a month ago and only last between 12-24 hours at the most. im just abit woried that they aren't getting enough neutrients to grow at a normal rate

bladeblaster 16-02-2009 03:44 PM

we are thinking of putting our corn onto fuzzies, but the size dif between a pinke and a fuzzie seems huge.

Mitch_Moshi 16-02-2009 03:47 PM

Have you got any pictures of your snake?

How big are the pinks compared to the width of the snake? I'd say try feeding 2 pinks for the next few feeds and if they manage these fine then to move up.

Stheno was onto Fuzzies by about 4/5 months of age.

im not too sure what they weigh and yes i know that rule of thumb from extensive research before purchasing the snakes, but thanks anyway. well just to give you a better idea of things, after i have fed my corn snakes and waited for the pinky to go down, there isnt really a lump like there used to be, there is still a small lump buts its not as noticable, also when they had their first feed with me it took a good 15 mins maybe more before they had completely devoured the pinky but now its gone in a bout 2mins so i presume that the pinkys are now too small or just the right size
i really appreciate everyones help on this!

I thought the same too, You'd be suprised how much they can eat though. I had a bag of Fuzzies and there was quite a range of size between them. Go for one of the smaller ones and it should be fine, snakes are rather stretchy when it comes to munch down big meals

This is one of my little'uns. She is 25g (empty) and 18inches long and feeding on fuzzies.

no sorry no pics as of yet, will try to get some up asap. it seems like multiple pinkies is the answer. should i try a fuzzy to see how they manage? i think they should be ok with that, but with so little experience i want to be sure!

bladeblaster 16-02-2009 03:58 PM

I am used to my boas and carpet wolfing down prey that you would think impossible, its just that the corn seems so thin!!

I have 6 pinkes left so am going to give him tree for the next 2 feeds then try him on a fuzzie when they are gone. He is about 14" long and seems well proportioned, not fat, not thin.

mickey22 16-02-2009 04:02 PM

ok from looking at that pic i think i will try fuzzies now as although its longer than my longest corn its probably about the same size in diameter
