Personally, I would love to breed my own food (mice/rats) for my snakes, but it just seem too much work to me!

I probabley would breed my own, in the not too distant future, if I get into breeding snakes in a large scale, but I suppose I am content with frozen ones at the moment!

I agree with Rachel & Bladeblaster, in that live or freshley killed, would probabley be more nutritious and more beneficial for a snake than frozen aswell!

Theres no need for that video to put you of snakes its just alot of americans feeding live which i would not worry about its up to them.

Everyone over here tends to feed frozen thawed and use live feeding as a last resort for a snake that hasent eaten for a long time, ill or even is a specialist species which only a few keep and its the only way to keep the snake alive.

Its a somthing you should be prepared to so if it really comes down to it but day to day theres no need most snakes do fine on frozen and can go there whole lives fine on it if there requirements are met.

I would forget the video and get a snake if you want to knowing that its not normal practice over here for the majority of snakes not to mention the help out there that you can get if needed don't worry.

Yep most people do feed defrost here but i can safely say live feeding is done a lot more than people realise or like to think, you learn more and more about live feeding as you get deeper into the hobby but it's impractical and a bit daft really to sell a live feeder to a first time keeper or just general keepers because live isn't easy to find and isn't like by many.

Although we have been lucky enough to have excellent feeders, if push came to shove, I would have no qualms about live feeding if all other avenues had been exhausted and my pets were wasting away.

But, would have to agree with Bladeblaster...I think seeing snakes in action with their accuracy, speed and strength is truely an awesome sight.

this is something i've put a lot of thought into- if the life of an animal depended on it, would i live feed? the answer i came up with is yes. at the end of the day, this animals life is in my hands, it looks to me for its every need, and, should every other avvenue be exhausted, then i would feed live to my snake. If i had come to the decision that no, i couldn't live feed, then hse would have gone up for sale/rehoming before the problem arose. i would live feed my cats if i needed to, they depend on me just the same.

I left a comment on there for the rabbit lovers:

Stop fretting. Live feeding of snakes is usually a last resort. Some particular individuals refuse frozen food, or even recently humanely killed food. If that's the case, live feeding is often used, as it is safer for the snake than force-feeding. For those of you who don't like it, don't watch it - but this occurs daily in captivity and in the wild.

Do the rodents suffer? Probably very little, they are suffocated in seconds. Bones dont break, contrary to popular beleif. Snakes kill perfectly

99% of the time there is no need to feed live to your snake. The people making these films are obviously doing it for entertainment, otherwise they wouldnt be doing it.
Theyre showing off what there snakes can do, we all know what snakes can do.
They will make an excuse and say, well its nature.
But like ive said before, your snakes are not in nature, theyre in a viv in your house.
I would love to get the head of one of these people and shove it in with my scrub python.
If your snakes will take dead which 99% do, then why give live? cos they are bullys and want to show off.
I'm sorry if ive upset anyone with this post but its how i feel.
