Default Can you attach...

... a ceramic to a RUB?

Its possibly a very stupid question as I'm quite aware that high temps + plastic = bad idea, but do the ceramics get hot enough to melt the RUB? And how would you attach it if you could?

I ask because I'm quickly going off heat mats.

Yep, got 2 at the moment.

Cut a hole out of the lid, cover with mesh aluminum mesh from Halfords or B&Q and the use an arcadia style lamp holder.

Bobs your uncle.

Random forum search gave me this

Setup for a gtp in a rub with a ceramic. A very cheap and effective setup when they are little.

Hmm.. thats very interesting, I hadnt thought about it being housed outside the rub. Plus, how the hell did you find that so quickly!? I searched for ages through posts looking for something LOL! Any idea how well this works? I can imagine a lot of heat is lost through the top?

I have magic search powers, or google has anyway only typed "rub ceramic gtp", went to images and that thread is the first piccie as many gtp owners use this type of temp setup.

Pretty good with heat as very little ventilation in the tub other than the hole for the ceramic, used similar setup as a quarantine tub for young lizards. Was in a warm area that had other quarantine reps so ambient temps outside the rub werent low to begin with. Ceramics kick out a hell of a lot of heat considering the size of them.

Ok, well I think I may have a go at doing this to my bigger RUB and check the temps etc. are all fine before moving him over.

I assume this setup is fien for Royals as well as GTP's?

Yep, snap but instead of nuts / bolts I use cable ties.

I have one on the Anaconda set up and one on the Ackies.

My Ackies have a 75w Par30 bulb and the basking spot is 130+ even though their in a 84l RUB and its a good 14 odd inches from the substrate.

Just don't add too many ventilation holes as you can always add some more later if too high.
