Default safe wood to use for hides

Can anyone tell me....

I am a joiner and would like to make my own hardwood hides for my royal python.
Which hardwoods are safe?? I know pine is not safe but i'd like to know if OAK is safe.

Many thanks

Oak is pretty safe mate.

If you do a search for "safe wood" in the habitat section you wil find loads of threads.

Anything that isn't too sappy or sticky is normally okay.

Pretty much all fruit trees and grape vine are okay to use.

As long as there's no bark left on the wood and it's well dried, any hardwood should be fine.

It's the sap/inner bark that tends to be dangerous for reptiles - fruit trees, for example, many of them have cyanide compounds in the inner bark. But once that's stripped away and the wood is well dried, there's no worrying toxic compounds left.
